If you have a busy household, then you probably have a fridge that is often overflowing with food and you struggle to find enough room to hold everything.  If this is the case, you may want to look at having refrigerator drawers installed in your kitchen.  Refrigerator drawers are a great solution to additional refrigerator space but there are some things that you should consider before you go out there and purchase them.

Space

One thing to remember when you are thinking about putting in refrigerated drawers is that they are going to take up some of the space of your cabinets.  If you have a small kitchen, this may be a valid concern since you will need to come up with a creative solution to store the items that are in the cabinets you are planning to remove.  For a large kitchen, this may not be a problem at all but you should still keep in mind the fact that you will have less storage space for other items.

Purpose

The purpose of installing refrigerated drawers is to provide more refrigerated space but there are other reasons that you may want to consider putting these into your kitchen.  They make a great place to put snacks for kids that are easily accessible such as puddings, drinks, cheese sticks, fruit, and other healthy foods.  Some people like to use them for beer, wine, and soft drinks since all you have to do is slide out the drawer and grab what you want.  They also are a great addition if you do a lot of entertaining and need extra space to put hors d'oeuvre trays and appetizers.

Expense

While I like the idea of putting an extra set of refrigerated drawers in my kitchen, I also hesitate because they can be pretty expensive.  You can expect to pay at least a couple thousand dollars for a unit from a well-known manufacturer.  Also, you should not expect this purchase to have any real impact on the resale value of your home so if you are planning to put these in as a strategy to raise the value of your home, you may want to rethink your decision.

Concealed

The nice thing about refrigerated drawers is that you can apply panels to the front of them that are designed to match your other kitchen cabinets.  This means that they will simply blend into your kitchen instead of standing out like your dishwasher and other appliances.  I think this concealment feature is a great idea and if you are going to install them, I would highly suggest taking advantage of this option.

Separate temperature control

Another feature that I really like about refrigerated drawers is that each drawer has its own temperature control, allowing you to store drinks in one drawer and fresh fruit in another.  This gives the unit an advantage over the traditional refrigerator – even one that offers temperature controlled produce drawers since you cannot fit drinks and larger items inside them.  You can even choose a set of refrigerator drawers that has sub-zero capabilities.
